French painter, the daughter of Marcel Duchamp, who never officially recognized her, and the model Jeanne Chastagnier then married to Marcel Jean Xavier Serré who recognized the child.
She learned painting at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière then at André Lhote’s studio in the 1930s.
An independent spirit, her work cannot be attached to any particular school. Towards the end of the ’50s, she painted furniture, such as chairs, armchairs or benches. She signed her works with the name “Yo Sermayer”.
She lived and worked in Paris and married Jacques Savy.
In 1966, 55-year-old Yo Savy met her biological father, Marcel Duchamp, who was then 79 years old.
She died on 22 September 2003 in Paris, aged 92.
