          William H. Pitsenbarger's Biography

          United States Air Force Pararescueman, nicknamed ‘Pits,’ who flew on almost 300 rescue missions during the Vietnam War to aide downed soldiers and pilots.
          On the night of 11 April 1966, he was killed aiding and defending a unit of soldiers pinned down by an enemy assault during the Vietnam War. Pits died at age 21. He was initially posthumously awarded the Air Force Cross, which was later upgraded to the Medal of Honor. He was the first enlisted recipient of the Air Force Cross medal, receiving the award in 1966.
          In December 2019, The Last Full Measure will be released depicting his life with Jeremy Irvine portraying Pits.
