          Willem Frederik Bijvoet's Biography

          Dutch gynaecologist.
          Willem was born as the eldest of seven in a noted family. His father Willem Frederik Bijvoet (22 Nov 1862 4 AM, Den Helder -17 Jan 1939, Santpoort) was a paint manufacture, merchant in tar products and local politician in Amsterdam. He married Barendina Margaretha Rüfer (2 February 1865, Amsterdam – 2 July 1954, Utrecht) on 5 March 1885 in Amsterdam.
          His younger brother Bernard Bijvoet (14 Dec 1889, Amsterdam – 27 Dec 1979, Haarlem) was a noted architect and his brother Johannes Martin Bijvoet (23 jan 1892, Amsterdam – 4 Match 1980, Winterswijk) became a world famous chemist and crystallographer at the van ‘t Hoff Laboratory at Utrecht University.
          After the higher civil school(HBS) he studied medicine in Amsterdam. In 1908 he became an assistant of the Anatomy professor L. Bolk. In 1910 he became a physician in Rotterdam. He assisted the surgeon Van Stokkum. Later he specialised in Amsterdam under Prof Hector Treub (1856-1920) in obstetrics and gynaecology. Since 1913 he had a practice as gynaecologist in Bussum . He was involved in the erection of the Catholic Majella foundation and travelled a lot to Germany and France for study.
          He died 3 Augustus 1961 in Bussum at age 75.
          Personal
          On 3 October 1912 he married in Rotterdam Hendrika Johanna van Egmond (1885, Haarlem – 26 February 1941, Zeist) in Rotterdam. They got two children: The gynaecologist Willem Frederik Bijvoet (13 August 1913, Bussum – 6 October 1987, Peymeinade, Alpes Martimes, France) and Heriette Bijvoet (30 July 1915, Bussum – – 11 January 1995, Den Haag). They divorced on 28 April 1930. On 1 November 1930 he married Paulina Henriette Neuboer (1896 – 7 June 1932, Bussum). They got a daughter Pauline Henriette Willibalda Bijvoet (6 May 1932, Bussum ), but the mother died in the childbed. On 14 June 1931 he married Jannetje Biersteker (12 Nov 1897, Amsterdam – 28 March 1968, Bussum).
