          Wilhelm Vocke's Biography

          German financial expert. From 1919 to 1939 member of the Board of Directors of the “Deutsche Reichsbank”, dismissed by Adolf Hitler on 1 February 1939. He was a defence witness on Hjalmar Schacht, wo was Reichsbank President from December 1923 to 1930 and again from March 1933 to 1939 (so he was Vocke’s supervisor). From 20 May 1948 to 31 December 1957, he was President in the Governing Board of the “Bank deutscher Länder”. From 1 August 1957 to end of 1957 he was the first president of the “Deutsche Bundesbank”. He received the Federal Cross of Merit from Federal President Theodor Heuss on his retirement.
          He died on 19 September 1973 at age 87.
