          American journalist who wrote two books about president George W. Bush’s adviser Karl Rove, Bush’s Brain (2003) and The Architect (2006).
          Slater worked at the Dallas Morning News bureau for three decades and covered the rise of Texas governors Ann Richards and George W. Bush.
          Wayne Slater died on the morning of 20 December 2021 at age 74 after his vehicle collided head-on with a pickup near Florence, Texas.
