          Wayne Collett's Biography

          American athlete, an Olympic Silver Medal winner at the 1972 Munich Olympics in the field and track events for the 400m race. However, having received their medals, he and his Gold Medal winner teammate, staged a protest by talking and acting casually during the playing of the Star Spangled Banner. Collett and Gold medal winner Vince Matthews, were staging a protest on behalf of the mistreatment of Blacks in America; for their protest, they were barred from the Olympics for life.
          A graduate of UCLA where he was later inducted into the university’s hall of fame (1992) he worked as an attorney and in real estate. He and his wife had two sons.
          Collet died of cancer on March 17, 2010 in Los Angeles.
