          Walter Jimenez Ledgard's Biography

          Outstanding Peruvian swimmer. In his youth he combined his qualities as an artist with the athlete, lover of poetry, theater and tango. In 1936, when he was studying medicine in Germany received a telegram from the Peruvian Olympic Committee to serve on the Peruvian delegation to compete at the Olympic Games in Berlin, but the problem of the Peruvian football team in the Olympics prevented him from continuing in the playoffs 400m. He was South American champion in the 100 and 200 freestyle in 1938 and 200 the following year. In 1954, Walter founded the first Academy of Swimming in Latin America, shred Nicholas Rivera, in the district of San Isidro, where for forty-five years he taught thousands of young people.
          He died on 8 March 1999, being hidden in the center of the pool, with trophies and medals he won in life. His remains were cremated as he had desired, in an impressive funeral.
