          Walter Häbich's Biography

          German political activist, a leading member of the Communist Party of Germany (German: Kommunistische Partei Deutschlands, KPD). Häbich became known as the chairman of the Communist Youth Association (KJVD) and as one of the victims of the so-called Night of the Long Knives (or the Röhm Purge, also called Operation Hummingbird).
          In 1933 he had been taken to the Dachau concentration camp as a prisoner and tortured. On 30 June or 1 July 1934, Häbich was shot by members of the SS camp guard together with four other prisoners from the Dachau camp (Julius Adler, Erich Gans, Adam Hereth and Paul Röhrbein). He was 29.
