          Walter Gross's Biography

German actor, cabaret artist and voice actor, who appeared in more than 150 films from 1933 to 1989, often in comic roles. He was awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany in 1979 and the Gold Filmband in 1988 for his many years of excellent work in German film.
Because of an ambiguous appearance in the cabaret Tingel-Tangel-Theater, he was imprisoned in the Esterwegen concentration camp from late May to late July 1935 and was subsequently banned from working for several months.
After the war he continued his career in the Berlin radio cabaret Die Insulaner. He appeared on television in several series, for example in the main role of Paul Lehmann in Drüben bei Lehmanns (1970-1971), alongside Brigitte Mira, with whom he also appeared in Drei Damen vom Grill (1977-1985).
He demonstrated his qualities as a voice actor when he portrayed Porky Pig (“Schweinchen Dick”) in an unmistakable squeaky voice in the German-language version of Looney Tunes.
Gross was married to actress Lou Seitz and later to Ingeborg Strakosch. After a stroke in 1988, Walter Gross died of heart failure on 17 May 1989 at age 85.
