          Ugo Pratolongo's Biography

          Italian agrarian chemist and agronomist whose pioneering research on enzyme catalysis was published in Milan in 1923 as La Catalisi – Sui fenomeni catalitici ed enzimatici (La Catalisi – On catalytic and enzymatic phenomena). He also carried out research on application issues, particularly in the wine and dairy sectors. His 1931 book, Principi di acidimetria applicata (Principles of Applied Acidification), explains how he developed research on the degree of acidity of agricultural land, from a short trip he made to Denmark, where he met Søren Sørensen. He retired in 1962, and died several years later at Civenna, Como, on 10 August 1968.
