          Ty Cobb's Biography

American Major League Baseball player, an outfielder nicknamed “The Georgia Peach.”
Cobb spent 22 seasons with the Detroit Tigers, the last six as the team’s player-manager, and finished his career with the Philadelphia Athletics. He may be regarded as the greatest hitter and base-runner, and possibly the greatest baseball player in history. Cobb set a top number of records, and had an unprecedented batting average of .367 over his 24-year career.
Yet his legacy as an athlete has sometimes been overshadowed by his surly temperament and aggressive playing style. Cobb was notorious for sliding into bases feet first, with his spikes high.
He died on 17 July 1961 at Emory University Hospital, Atlanta, Georgia.
