          Timothy Richmond's Biography

          American race car driver whose career began in 1982. In 1986 he had his best year, winning seven races, the most of any driver in the Nascar Winston Cup circuit. He was chosen Co-driver of the year by the national Motorsports Press Association but missed the ceremony because of having pneumonia.
          Tim was always in high gear, riding quarter-horses as a teenager before discovering race cars. He began flying lessons at 13, earning his license at 16, and graduated from the Miami Military Academy in 1973. His dad, Al, got him a race car in 1976 which he drove to Pennsylvania for a race and then wrecked in the fifth lap. He drove Indy cars 1979 to 1981 and Nascar since then, winning 11 races and $2.1 million in purses in the following decade. His best season was 1986.
          Tim is slender, 155 lbs and 5′ 9″; he always liked speed and living on the edge, along with clothes, parties and pretty women. He died of AIDS at age 34 on August 13, 1989 in West Palm Beach, FL.
