          Theodor Vogelstein's Biography

          German banker and industrialist, the third son of the Szczecin rabbi Heinemann Vogelstein. Hermann Vogelstein, Ludwig Vogelstein and Julie Braun-Vogelstein were his siblings.
          In 1901, Theodor Vogelstein completed his doctoral studies. From 1910 he worked as a lecturer in Munich. In the First World War he was director of the war metal company. From 1919 to 1933 he worked as a banker in Berlin, where he was a partner of the banking house C. Kretschmar and partner of J. Dreyfus & Co. He was also a member of the supervisory board of lignite and electricity companies and co-founder of the German Democratic Party. Vogelstein was also a member of the Society for Social Reform, the Association for Social Policy and of the Socialization Commission.
          He emigrated to France in 1933, then to England, then to the USA. He died on 5 May 1957 in Paris, aged 76.
