          Ted Marchibroda's Biography

American football quarterback who played in the 1950s in the National Football League (NFL), and he was a head coach in the NFL in the 1970s and 1990s. He spent his four years as an active player with the Pittsburgh Steelers (1953, 1955–1956) and Chicago Cardinals (1957). He was later head coach of the Colts in two different cities and decades, first in Baltimore (1975–1979) and then Indianapolis (1992–1995). Upon joining the Baltimore Ravens in a similar capacity in 1996, he became the only individual to serve as head coach with both of Baltimore’s NFL teams.
He began his career as head coach of the Baltimore Colts. From 1975-1977 he was able to lead the Colts to three straight AFC East titles and a regular season record of 29-4. Things soon changed, however, and Marchibroda was fired from the Colts after leading the team to back-to-back 5-11 records in 1978 and 1979. Before returning to the Indianapolis Colts (the team moved) as head coach in 1992, he served five years as an offensive assistant with the Buffalo Bills, helping to lead the team to consecutive Super Bowls in 1990 and 1991. In 1995, Marchibroda was able to lead his Indianapolis Colts to a 9-7 record and the conference championship. Marchibroda was fired from the Ravens on 28 December 1998 after leading the team to a disappointing record of 16-31-1 over three years.
Marchibroda was a radio color commentator for the Indianapolis Colts from 1999 to 2006 alongside Bob Lamey.
Ted Marchibroda died on 16 January 2016 from natural causes at his home in Weems, Virginia at the age of 84. He was survived by his wife Ann, their four children, and six grandchildren.
