American novelist Susan Minot is the author of “Monkeys,” “Evening” and “Rapture” and several short stories. She has been compared to J.D. Salinger for her “fine economy” in story-telling and for her ability to convey “the special texture of life in a large family through details.” Minot attended Boston University for a year and graduated from Brown University with a BA in 1978, earning her MFA from Columbia University in 1983. She began her writing career as an editorial assistant for the New York Review of Books in 1981, and has been teaching writing at Columbia University and New York University from the late 80s. She married David McHenry, a filmmaker on 4/30/88 and won the Prix Femina and that same year for “Monkeys” as well as the O. Henry Award, which she had been awarded in 1985.
