          Sugar Ray Robinson's Biography

          American boxer, winner of the lightweight title in 1940 and the middleweight title in 1951. In a 25-year career, he won 175 of his 202 bouts, touted as “pound for pound, the best fighter.” He retired in 1965 and did a brief stint as a Hollywood actor in 1968. He was entered into the Boxing Hall of Fame 1978.
          He died of heart disease, Alzheimer’s and diabetes on 12 April 1989, Culver City, CA.
