American award-winning astrologer, lecturer and author of nearly a dozen astrological books. He is one of the founders of the School of Evolutionary Astrology, described by Forrest as “a form of psychological astrology which is integrated with metaphysics. Where a twentieth century psychological astrologer might focus on the dynamics of childhood, the evolutionary astrologer focuses on the childhood of the soul—prior lifetimes, and the issues left unresolved from them.”
His books include The Inner Sky (1984), The Changing Sky (1986), The Night Speaks (1993), The Book of Pluto (1995), Stalking Anubis (2002), Yesterday’s Sky (2008), The Book of the Moon (2010), and The Book of Neptune (2016), plus his four-volume “Elements” series, The Book of Fire (2018), The Book of Earth (2019), The Book of Air (2020) and The Book of Water (2020).
His first book, The Inner Sky was contracted with Bantam Book in July 1981 and published in August 1984. With astrologer Jeffrey Wolf Green, Forrest co-authored Measuring The Nights, Volumes One and Two (both 2002), and with his wife, Jodie Forrest, co-authored Skymates (1988). A popular writer and lecturer, his books have been translated into several languages.
Forrest grew up in a three-room apartment near New York City. His father worked for Bell Telephone laboratories and his mother was a homemaker. He has one sister, two years his junior.
He had a large counseling practice in North Carolina, where he lived for forty years before moving to Borrego Springs in the southern California desert in 2008. He graduated from the University of North Carolina in 1971 with a bachelor’s degree in Religion and has an active interest in training astrologers, having won the Regulus award for astrological education in 2018. For several years, Forrest was a member of the ISAR Ethics Committee, working on creating a Code of Ethics governing astrological practice. In December 2020, he launched an online school, The Forrest Center for Evolutionary Astrology.
Of Steven Forrest’s work, the singer Sting says that he “. . . manages to disarm the sceptic, as well as debunk the charlatanism that surrounds popular astrology, with language that is as intelligent and cogent as it is poetic.” DELL HOROSCOPE described him as “not only a premier astrologer, but also a wise man.” Callie Khouri, who wrote the screenplay for the mega-hit film Thelma and Louise praises his “humor, insight, poetry, and astute, articulate observations of human nature.” O: THE OPRAH MAGAZINE describes his philosophy this way: “Forrest’s approach . . . stops the blame game in its tracks. . . we’re warriors fulfilling our turbulent evolutionary paths.” Rob Brezny, in his popular Real Astrology column simply calls him “the most brilliant astrologer alive.” And actor Robert Downey, Jr. says, “I marvel at the accuracy of Steven’s readings. He insists that nothing is so grave as to be beyond repair, and correspondingly that there is no rainbow that won’t be evaporated by poor judgment in the now. I can’t recommend him highly enough.”
He married Jodie Jensen, his second wife, on 7 January 1984. Their marriage ended in 2010. He has lived with his current partner, painter Michelle Kondos, since 2013. For many years, he was an avid salt-water sailor and played guitars in rock bands for which he composed music. Currently his hobbies are gardening and exploring the Anza-Borrego desert with Kondos in his Jeep Rubicon.
