Wilson received a bachelor of science degree in engineering science from Harvard University in 1988, after which she worked for Martin Marietta, an aerospace firm in Denver, CO. She returned to school in 1990 to earn her master of science degree in aerospace engineering from the University of Texas. Landing a job at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California, in 1992. Four years later, 1996, she was selected by NASA.
She took her first space flight on July 4, 2006, landing with her crew mates on the 17th (STS-121). Her second space flight came a year later, lasting from October 23-November 7, 2007, and she is scheduled for a third in 2010.
