          Stéphane Robinet's Biography

          French pharmacist, who started his career as a botanist, before studying under famous pharmacist and chemist, Louis-Nicolas Vauquelin (1763-1829), at the Jardin du Roi. As a chemist he researched the properties of a wide variety of substances, ranging from cinnamon and mustard to opium and morphine. He was a cofounder and editor of, and contributor to, the Journal de chimie médicale. Later in life he turned to hydrography, managing a group of scientists appointed to solve the water supply problem in Paris. Robinet died on 3 December 1869, aged 72.
