          Sam Bowie's Biography

          American basketball player, a 7 ft 1 in (2.16 m) and 235 lb (107 kg) center who played ten seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA) for the Portland Trail Blazers (1984-1989), New Jersey Nets (1989–1993) and Los Angeles Lakers (1993–1995).
          Projected as a solid first rounder in the 1984 NBA draft, Bowie was chosen by the Portland Trail Blazers as the second selection, ahead of Hall of Famer Michael Jordan, due to Portland already having drafted Clyde Drexler just a year before. He is considered to be one of the greatest draft busts in NBA history.
          Since his retirement, Bowie has been involved in harness racing, both owning and training horses that run at The Red Mile in Lexington. For a time, Bowie did color commentary for Kentucky Basketball.
          Sam Bowie has been married twice and has have three now-grown children.
