          Rudolf Wolke's Biography

          German cyclist, noted as one of the strongest German road racers between the two world wars, professional from 1927 to 1939. In 1927, Wolke won the Großen Opelpreis von Deutschland, the precursor of the Deutschland Rundfahrt, and the Olympia’s Tour in front of Janus Braspennincx.
          Also in 1927 he became Cloud Vice World Amateur Champion at the UCI Road World Championships at the Nürburgring behind Jean Aerts from Belgium. In 1928 he won Quer durch Thüringen and in 1934 the Württemberg-Rundfahrt. In 1934, 1936 and 1939, he finished second at Berlin-Cottbus-Berlin.
          Rudolf Wolke died in Berlin on 12 March 1979, aged 72. His brother Bruno was also a successful racer.
