Robert Stroud's Biography
American homicide who killed two men and was given life in prison. A crippled bird flew into his cell, leading to a life study of birds, writing a textbook and becoming an authority on birds. Stroud was never paroled due to killing a prison guard, Andrew Turner, on 26 March 1916.
Stroud died on 21 November 1963 at the Springfield Medical Center for Federal Prisoners, Missouri, aged 73, having been incarcerated for the last 54 years of his life, of which 42 were spent in solitary confinement.
