          Robert Jentzsch's Biography

German mathematician and poet, the author of a PhD maths dissertation on the consequences of analytical functions, whose promising career was cut short by his early death in the First World War.
In addition to his mathematical career, Robert Jentzsch devoted himself to another occupation – lyric poetry. He was a member of the expressionist Der Neue Club, along with well-known poet and close friend, Georg Heym. Heym’s tragic death in a skating incident in January 1912 hit Jentzsch hard. He distanced himself from the Club but continued to write poetry. His literary estate is partly preserved through his correspondence with Erika Schnell held at the archive of the Academy of Arts in Berlin and the German Literature Archive in Marbach.
Robert was the brother of the physicist Felix Jentzsch. He died on 21 March 1918 in the Battle of Cambrai, aged 27. He was awarded the Iron Cross 2nd and 1st class.
