          Richard Webb's Biography

          American actor seen in some 60 films but whose best media was television, playing on more than 260 shows. Webb was the hero of Captain Midnight (1954-1958) that had many reruns and segued into a comic book. He began his career on the New York stage before moving to Hollywood where he made such films as Sands of Iwo Jima (1949) and Distant Drums (1951).
          Interested in the supernatural and ESP, Webb was the author of Great Ghosts of the West and several other novels.
          He was married twice with four children. After a long respiratory illness, he was despondent and shot himself to death on the night of 10 June 1993 in Los Angeles, California. He was 77.
