Richard Brademann's Biography
German architect and senior government building construction officer, who designed a large number of railway buildings for the Berlin S-Bahn between 1922 and 1939. In addition to stations, he also designed substations, signal boxes and other technical buildings. During this time, the expansion and electrification of Berlin’s city, ring and suburban railways became an exemplary S-Bahn system of the time.
Many of his buildings are still present in the Berlin cityscape today, and are heritage-listed for their special design style. He had a similar influence on the Berlin railway architecture as Alfred Grenander did between 1902 and 1930 on Berlin subway architecture.
In 1931 Brademann joined the NSDAP (Nazi Party). In April 1933, he provided the Reich Chancellery with a record he had co-authored that contained a long list of people on the board of directors and in other management positions, who were defamed as Jews, half-Jews, Democrats, Marxists or Freemasons.
After the Second World War, Brademann was no longer allowed to work in the civil service. He went to Yugoslavia where he was involved in the postwar reconstruction. He later returned to West Berlin, where he died on 20 April 1965 at age 80.
