Rev. Robert Williams (July 21, 1955 – December 24, 1992) was an influential American clergyman and a pioneering figure in the Episcopal Church, known as the first openly gay male priest whose ordination was publicly acknowledged by the ordaining diocese. His life and work were marked by a commitment to inclusivity and advocacy for LGBTQ+ rights within the church.

Born in Abilene, Texas, Williams was a Generator in Human Design, characterized by his powerful sacral energy and a strategy of responding to life’s opportunities. This innate ability to respond allowed him to navigate the complexities of his ministry and activism with resilience and passion. In his role as the founding head of The Oasis, an outreach program for homosexuals at All Saints Church in Hoboken, New Jersey, Williams advocated for a broader understanding of human sexuality. His controversial statements, including his views on monogamy and celibacy, challenged traditional beliefs and ultimately led to his resignation from ministry. His Human Design channels, particularly 11-56 and 3-60, highlight his capacity for innovative thinking and deep emotional insights, which he applied to his studies of human sexuality at New York University.

After relocating to Provincetown, Massachusetts, due to health complications from AIDS, Williams sought to establish an Episcopalian healing ministry. However, he faced challenges from church authorities and chose to run his healing ministry independently. He passed away on December 24, 1992, in Boston, at the age of 37, leaving behind a legacy of courage and advocacy for LGBTQ+ individuals in the church. He is survived by his partner, Kevin McKowen.
