          Raymond Delhaye's Biography

          Belgian businessman, who began a commercial career in the company of his father, of which he was the director-general manager in 1936. Nine years later, on the latter’s death, he took over the management of the company while his wife-in-law’s mother, Baroness Vaxelaire, becomes president of the board. His state of health forced him to gradually give up his activities from 1960. Among his many functions, Raymond Delhaye was president of the Association des Grandes Entreprises de Distribution (AGED) and president-founder of the Intercontinental Group of Department Stores. At the start of the Second World War, he also held the important functions of Secretary General of the Ministry of Public Health and Food Supply and negotiated the surrender of the capital to the Germans. He died on 27 December 1963 in Woluwé-Saint-Pierre at age 68.
