          Ramiro Fabiani's Biography

          Italian geologist, paleontologist, university professor, and a member of the National Academy of Sciences.
          He completed secondary studies at Vicenza and university students at the University of Padua, where he graduated in mathematics in October 1901 and in natural sciences in June 1903.
          He became a professor of geology at the University of Padua and from 1909 taught paleontology. From 1925 to 1946 he taught geology at the University of Palermo. In the same university he also taught paleontology and physical geography until 1936 and was head of the faculty from 1932 to 1943.
          Since 1925 he was entrusted with the task of organizing petroleum research in Sicily on behalf of the Ministry of Economy, then for the Industry and Commerce and, after 1934, on behalf of Agip.
          In 1946 he moved to Rome where he was director of the Institute of Geology until 1949.
          He wrote over 230 publications. He died in Rome on 28 April 1954, aged 74.
