          Raf Vallone's Biography

          Italian actor, handsome and talented. After graduation from the University of Turin, he was a professional soccer player and critic and landed minor parts in a few movies. In 1949 he won acclaim with his stunning performance in “Bitter Rice,” the first of many complicated characters he would play in a long and prolific acting career. In 1961 Vittoria de Sica cast him in “Two Women” and the next year he starred in Arthur Miller’s “A View From the Bridge.” Although he slowed down in the 1990s, he played Cardinal Lamberti in the 1990 film “Godfather III” and then appeared in the 1999 “Toni.” He died in Rome on 10/31/2002 at age 86; cause was unspecified.
          He was married to Elena Varzi from 1952 until his death and they had two children.
