British prince as the eldest child of William, Prince of Wales, and Catherine, Princess of Wales. George is the eldest grandchild of King Charles III and second in the line of succession to the British throne behind his father.
He was born the Prince of Cambridge, as the first child and son of Prince William, then Duke of Cambridge, and his wife Catherine, then Duchess of Cambridge. He was baptized on 23 October 2013 by the archbishop of Canterbury with water from the river Jordan.
Born during the reign of his great-grandmother Queen Elizabeth II (1926-2022), the Prince belongs to the House of Windsor. Patrilineally, he is a member of the House of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg.
At birth he was third in line to succeed his paternal great-grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, after his paternal grandfather, Charles, then Prince of Wales, and his father, William.
Upon the death of his great-grandmother Queen Elizabeth II on 8 September 2022 his paternal grandfather became King Charles III. The next day, 9 September 2022 his father was newly titled as Prince of Wales and George took the new title of His Royal Highness Prince George of Wales.
George’s parents have been adamant about maintaining their son’s privacy as he grows up. In August 2015, Kensington Palace stated that they wanted all global media to stop taking unauthorised photographs of George, saying that “a line [had] been crossed” in paparazzi methods of locating and photographing him, including surveilling the family and sending children to bring George into view.
