          Prince of Hesse Richard's Biography

          German prince, a son of Prince Friedrich Karl of Hesse and Princess Margarete of Prussia. He had a twin brother, Christoph. He was a brother-in-law of Prince Philip, the consort of Queen Elizabeth II.
          As Obergruppenführer (brigade leader) in the National Socialist Motor Corps (NSKK), he ran in the election for the NSDAP to the German Reichstag on 29 March 1936, but did not move into the National Socialist Reichstag. He then lived in Frankfurt am Main, at Lindenstraße 7. He failed in his candidacy for election to the Greater German Reichstag in 1938. In 1937 he was promoted to NSKK Obergruppenführer and led until 1941 the NSKK group Hesse.
          After the war he lived in Kronberg im Taunus and remained unmarried. He was first head of the State Traffic Watch of Hesse, then president of the German Traffic Watch (Road Patrol) in the Federal Republic of Germany.
          He died in Frankfurt am Main on 11 February 1969, aged 67.
