          Prince of Bentheim and Steinfurt Ludwig's Biography

          Imperial Count of Bentheim and Steinfurt, as the second son of Count Carl Paul Ernst and his wife, Sophie Charlotte, the eldest daughter of Friedrich Wilhelm II, Prince of Nassau-Siegen. As his brother Carl (13 February 1753 – 5 September 1772) died before their father, Ludwig succeeded in 1780 as Count of Steinfurt.
          On 17 July 1776, he married Juliane Wilhelmine of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg (30 April 1754 – 14 September 1823), with whom he had eight children.
          He died on 20 August 1817, aged 60.
