          Pierre Craninx's Biography

          Belgian doctor and university professor. In 1841 he became a member of the Royal Academy of Medicine, of which he became president in 1884.
          He was the grandson of Professor Etienne Heuschling, a former Hebrew professor at the Collegium Trilingue in Louvain, then a professor at the Brussels School of Law and finally at the State University of Louvain.
          Pierre Craninx studied medicine at the State University of Louvain and obtained on 7 July 1829, the diploma of doctor of medicine of this university, where he immediately became reader and assistant of Professor Charles Jacmart. From the year following his appointment to the rank of professor he worked at the offices of the ministry when the Belgian revolution broke out. However, he completed his work in Paris with Broussais.
          Returning to Belgium in 1830, he served the new Belgian army as a military doctor during the national revolution.
          He died at Hamme-Mille on 17 August 1890, aged 84.
