          Pedro Augusto of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha's Biography

          Known in Brazil as Dom Pedro Augusto, was a prince of the house of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha and a prince of the Empire of Brazil. He was the first of four sons born to German Prince Ludwig August of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha and Princess Leopoldina of Brazil.
          He was the first ruler of the world who graduated in civil engineering and wrote several works on mineralogy. He inherited a taste for the studies of his grandfather and was a member of the Institute of France, the Brazilian Historic and Geographic Institute and even came to give a lecture on minerals in the French Academy of Sciences. Although the rights they had the children of Princess Isabel of Brazil (which were the legitimate heirs), the prince went with the idea of ??succeeding his grandfather until the fall of the Empire in 1889. He actively participated in attempts to modify the constitution in their favor, many supporters gathered around him, contrary to the third reign of his aunt; These attitudes earned him, in Parliament, the nickname The Prince conspirator. The failure of his plans was one of the main causes of mental disorders he suffered since the proclamation of the Republic until his death in Austria on 7 July 1934, in the sanatorium was held in by his father after a suicide attempt in 1893.
