          Paul Römer's Biography

          German bacteriologist and hygiene specialist, who was one of the first researchers to attempt to make a polio virus vaccine. He studied under Emil Adolf von Behring (1854-1917) and became his co-worker. He was Principal of the Institute of Hygiene and Experimental Medicine of Marburg. He wrote the 1911 book, Die epidemische Kinderlähmung (published in English as Epidemic Infantile Paralysis: Heine-Medin Disease). He died of typhoid on 30 March 1916, aged 39.
