American pro baseball player who was selected by the St. Louis Cardinals in a free-agent draft pick 6/05/1974. He didn’t sign with them, deciding to attend college in Minnesota. He signed with the Milwaukee Brewers organization in their free-agent draft 6/07/1977. Molitor stayed with the Twins for the majority of his career with one sojourn into the Toronto Blue Jay organization for a three year period, 1992-1995, then resigned from the Twins.
He is a noted designated hitter and first-baseman, holding records for stolen bases in one inning, hitting three home runs in one game and chalking up a 39-game hitting streak. He holds the Milwaukee Brewers all-time record for highest batting average (.303), most stolen bases (412) and the Toronto Blue Jays record for highest batting average of .315. Molitor has been honored with the Midwest Most Valuable Player in 1977, A.L. Rookie of the Year in 1978, Designated Hitter of the A.L. All-Star Team, 1987 and 1993-96 and Designated Hitter of the A.L. Silver Slugger team numerous times.
Statistically, Molitor played in one Division Series game in 1981, two years in the Championship Series, two years in the World Series games and seven years in the All-Star Games. He was named Most Valuable Player in the World Series in 1993 and holds numerous single game records in those series.
At over 20 years as a professional ball player, Molitor, at 6′ 0″, 193 lbs, batting right and throwing right, is noted as one of the great players. He comes from a large family, having seven siblings.
The baseball great was inducted into the Hall of Fame on July 25, 2004. The induction ceremony began at 1:30 PM in Cooperstown, NY.
