          Paul E. Waldschmidt's Biography

          American prelate of the Roman Catholic Church who served as Auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Portland, Oregon from 1978 to 1990.
          He graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1942. Waldschmidt was ordained to the priesthood on June 24, 1944 for the Congregation of Holy Cross. From 1962 to 1978, Waldschmidt served as President of the University of Portland.
          On 28 November 1977, he was appointed titular bishop of Citium, and auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Portland, and was consecrated on 2 March 1978. Waldschmidt resigned on 8 January 1990.
          He died on 20 October 1994, aged 74.
