          Paul Couderc's Biography

          French astronomer and a prolific author known for his popularization of science. A former student of the Ecole Normale Supérieure, Paul Couderc taught mathematics in preparatory classes at Charlemagne High School before devoting himself to astronomy. A member of the Observatory of Paris, he displayed a considerable activity as a popularizer and writer, tackling the history of the calendar and astronomy, the calculation of eclipses, the theory of relativity, cosmology and astrophysics. His work was crowned by the Kalinga Prize for popular science. He was a member of the Honorary Committee of the Rationalist Union.
          He died on 5 February 1981 in the 14th arrondissement of Paris, aged 81.
