Pat met billionaire John Kluge at a New York City fund-raiser in 1976, and they married five years later in London. Chic and beautiful, she entered the high social circle of moneyed Palm Beach and Virginia, where her background and conduct was a continual and delicious topic of local gossip. She worked seriously at upgrading her social image with lavish entertaining and putting millions into charitable contributions.
On 4/22/1990, an attorney announced an amiable end of the nine-year union of Pat Kluge and her husband, self-made media mogul John Kluge, whose $5.2 billion assets make him the richest person in America. She received an immense settlement, a 45-room mansion near Charlottesville, VA, where she’ll live with their six-year-old adopted son, John II, and a $20 million shooting lodge in the Scottish Highlands. For spending money, she has the income of $1.6 million a week, the interest on a billion dollars.
In mid-1990, the media began to report that Pat was keeping company with Virginia Governor L. Douglas Wilder, 59, the first elected black Governor in U.S. history.
Her ex-husband, John, died on September 7, 2010 in Virginia, age 95.
