          Oskar Tietz's Biography

          German cyclist who rode professionally from 1922 to 1936, winning the Berlin six-day race three times in his career. He also finished second five times. He also had further success at the six-day races in Frankfurt and Munich. In 1925 he won Rund um Berlin. His greatest success on the road was third place overall in the 1930 tour of Germany. In the course of the tour he led the overall standings on four stages, but ultimately had to surrender to Hermann Buse and Kurt Stöpel. In 1930 he contested the Tour de France but retired on stage 9 after a fall.
          Oskar Tietz worked as a newspaper driver for a few years before World War II, and he resumed work in Berlin after 1945. He remained involved in cycling as a consultant and a regular visitor to races until his death on 16 May 1975 at age 79.
