          Oscar Orth's Biography

          German surgeon and director of the country hospital in Homburg, later the university hospital of Saarland. While he was chief surgeon at the hospital, in the period from the end of 1935 to September 1939, forced sterilizations were carried out on the mentally handicapped as overseen by him and the Nazi Party. Orth had been a member of the NSDAP (Nazi Party) since 1 June 1936 (membership number 690 9753) and had belonged to the Reichsärztekammer since 26 November 1941. For many years after his death, he was the subject of public discussion about his participation in National Socialist (Nazi Party) crimes. He died in Ensheim, Germany, on 19 August 1958, aged 82.
