          Óscar Castro's Biography

          Chilean fiction writer and poet whose literary work covered both the lyrical genre -with a transparent, human and melancholic language, and perfect metre- and the narrative genre, which was much more realistic and close to criollismo.
          In 1945 he was diagnosed with pulmonary tuberculosis, and had to take a rest for two months. In 1946 he accepted a position at the Juan Antonio R¡os Lyceum in Santiago, where he began his work on 8 March 1947. His health suffered severely and he entered the Hospital del Salvador on 12 September, dying in Santiago on 1 November 1947.
