          Nanette Fabray's Biography

American actress, comedienne, singer and dancer. Playing Sid Caesar’s inimitable TV wife and comedy partner on “Caesar’s Hour” in the 1950s, she won Emmy and Tony awards. A child actress, she first acted at three and played in the “Our Gang” comedies at seven. Her only important film appearance was in the musical “The Band Wagon” in 1953 with Fred Astaire and Jack Buchanan, as TV and the stage always remained her primary medium. She won two Donaldson Awards for her Broadway performances and was honoured with the President’s Distinguished Service Award.
Fabray was first married to David Tebet, a vice president of NBC, from 26 October 1947 to July 1951, and made a second marriage to screenwriter Ranald MacDougall from 24 April 1957 to December 1973. They had one child.
As she had a hearing impairment, she wore a hearing aid and also read lips. Fabray was a long-time advocate for the rights of the deaf and hard of hearing. Her honours representing the handicapped include the President’s Distinguished Service Award and the Eleanor Roosevelt Humanitarian Award.
Fabray died on 22 February 2018 at her home in Palos Verdes, California, at the age of 97.
