          Michel (1809) Lévy's Biography

          French military doctor, medical inspector, and the only Jewish general of the Second Empire. He participated in the Crimean campaign as permanent director and inspector of the Eastern Army Health Service in Turkey and the Crimea, where he put in place proven hygiene measures to fight a cholera epidemic.
          Married to Adèle Dupont, he was the father of geologist Auguste Michel Lévy.
          He died in Paris on 19 March 1872, aged 62.
