          Michael Goodwin's Biography

          American architect based in Arizona, whose major works include the Tempe Municipal Building (1970), an upside-down pyramid designed to shade and cool itself, and Marcos de Niza High School (1971), considered a revolution in open space campus design.
          He was the son of Kemper Goodwin, another important local architect (with two buildings on the National Register of Historic Places in Arizona) with whom Michael would later work. Like his father, he attended the University of Southern California.
          He served two terms in the Arizona House of Representatives in the 1970s.
          In 1978, he became the youngest person ever to become a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects.
          Michael Goodwin died on 4 May 2011.
