American rapper, singer, actress and songwriter, whose debut EP Tina Snow (2018) was named after her alter ego, whom she describes as “a more raw version” of herself. She signed to 300 Entertainment in November 2018, making her the first female rapper on the label. Her first full-length musical project, Fever, was released on 17 May 2019. In 2019, Time magazine placed her on its inaugural Time 100 Next list.
Megan Thee Stallion’s mother, Holly Thomas, died in March 2019 from a longstanding cancerous brain tumor and her grandmother died in the same month. As well as acting as her daughter’s manager, Thomas had influenced Megan Thee Stallion’s decision to study Health Administration and also helped foster her wish to establish assisted-living facilities in her hometown of Houston, Texas.
On 15 July 2020 Megan Thee Stallion posted an Instagram message that stated “I suffered gunshot wounds as a result of a crime that was committed against me and done with the intention to physically harm me.” In the message she further stated that she underwent surgery to remove the bullets and is expected to make a full recovery. Her account countered an earlier TMZ report that she had injured her foot on broken glass the prior Sunday when she was in a car with recording artist Tory Lanez and an unidentified woman; the car was pulled over by police and Lanez was arrested on gun charges after the police executed a vehicle search. Neither she nor her representatives released information about the culprit of the shooting.
