Their biological father, Michael Meehan, 36, a local attorney, and his domestic partner, Thomas Dysarz, 31, attended the birth and will raise the babies together. The four babies were in stable condition and “doing fine,” and the surrogate mother was in good condition even though the babies were born about nine weeks early. One girl (Taylor) and three boys, were born at 15:05 (Taylor & Michael), 15:07 (Jacob) and 15:08 (Tristan) (3:05-3:08 PM), Central Baptist Hospital, Lexington, KY, USA.
The situation is unique. Officials from several groups interested in surrogacy or gay parenting say they know of no other similar cases that have resulted in quadruplets. The surrogate mother, a 23-year-old Central Kentucky woman who became pregnant in January through in-vitro fertilization, declined to be interviewed or identified for this article. Hospitalized since July 16, she delivered the infants through a Caesarean section at 30 weeks, five days. The surrogate mother already has three young children, including twins. She met Meehan, a former California politician, and Dysarz, a hairdresser, when she visited one of the two Planet Salons that the men own in Lexington.
