          Maurice Rémy's Biography

French son of serial killer Henri Désiré Landru (1869-1922) who murdered at least seven women in the village of Gambais between December 1915 and January 1919. To varying degrees, Maurice, his mother, Marie-Catherine, and his three siblings were all complicit in shielding him from the police during World War I and in abetting his thefts from the missing women.
Maurice was the Landrus’ second child, their first son and first legitimate child.
Maurice was arrested for swindling and thefts in the autumn of 1915, shortly after his mobilization, and tried by court martial. Among the valuables in Maurice’s possession was jewelry belonging to Jeanne Cuchet which his father had given him. Maurice later disclaimed any knowledge of the jewelry’s provenance. In January 1917, following his release from a military prison, Maurice assisted his father in creating a cover story to explain the disappearance of the sixth missing woman, Anna Collomb.
Maurice, his mother and three siblings were never charged in relation to Henri Désiré Landru’s crimes. He was sent to the guillotine on 25 February 1922 in Versailles, France.
On 11 April 1924 Maurice reverted to his mother’s maiden name Rémy. He married Alice Albertine Fortenfant on 19 April 1926 in Clichy-sur-Seine. He died on 24 February 1937 in Clichy-sur-Seine at age 42.
