          Mary L. Vohryzek's Biography

          American astrologer, writer, teacher and lecturer who seldom charged for her services. During travels throughout her youth, she met her future husband, Frank Vohryzek, in Guayaquil, Ecuador, where she had been sent by the U.S. State Department in the early years of World War II. He was a refugee from the Holocaust in Czechoslovakia who had emigrated to Ecuador at the start of the war. They were married on 7 October 1943, lived in San Francisco and had nine daughters together (including one set of twins and one daughter who died aged 4 months); she was widowed on 5 June 1983.
          Marc Penfield relates that when he moved to San Francisco from Chicago in August 1970, she was the first astrologer he met. She taught him about Ebertin’s book on midpoints and his theory of cosmobiology, Johndro’s concept of geodetic equivalents, the Koch house system, Thyrza Escobar’s theory of Duads, and advanced systems of progressions.
          Mary Vohryzek translated Elsbeth and Reinhold Ebertin’s “Anatomical Correspondence to Zodiacal Degrees” as published by NCGR in Winter 1986. She wrote the forward to Louise McWhirter’s 1988 book Astrology and stock market forecasting.
          By 1987 she had developed Epstein-Barr syndrome. She died of lung cancer on 19 May 1988 at 8:35 PM in Rockport, Massachusetts, one day short of her 67th birthday.
