          Mary Anne Trump's Biography

Scottish-American homemaker, philanthropist, and the mother of Donald Trump, the 45th president of the United States. Born in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland, she emigrated to the United States in 1930 and became a naturalized citizen in 1942. With her husband, real estate developer Fred Trump, she raised five children and engaged in philanthropic activities in the New York area.
In abject poverty, on 2 May 1930 she left Glasgow, Scotland on the SS Transylvania emigrating to the United States, arriving in New York one day after her 18th birthday. MacLeod arrived with 50 dollars in her purse and worked as a domestic servant for at least four years. She returned to Scotland at some point in mid 1934 before returning to New York on the SS Cameronia, arriving in the USA on 12 September 1934. She travelled on a “re-entry permit” obtained from Washington on 3 March 1934 – such permits were only granted to immigrants intending to stay and become US citizens.
She met Fred Trump and they were married in 1936, settling in Jamaica Estates, Queens, New York. Fred Trump eventually became one of the city’s biggest real estate developers. Mary Anne Trump was naturalized as a U.S. citizen on 10 March 1942.
Besides Donald (born 1946), she had four children: Robert (born 1948), Maryanne (born 1937), Elizabeth (born 1942) and Fred Jr. (1938–1981), who died of complications from alcoholism.
Mary Anne’s husband Fred Trump died at age 93 in June 1999. She died a year later on 7 August 2000 at Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New Hyde Park, New York, at age 88.
